Among the many hotels found in Loreto, perhaps the Las Trojes Hotel has one of the richest histories. It was said that in the state of Michoacan, Tarascan natives developed forms of art that was compared to the artifacts from the Chinese Sung Dynasty.
Ten years ago, Agustin Salvat found ancient Trojes, or grainaries in the Tarascan highlands. Amazed with these creations, Salvat disassembled them and brought them to Loreto. He hired three Tarascan Indians to reassemble the grainaries in the beaches of Loreto. These grainaries are built without using nails, so the task was tedious and exhausting. Alas, the Tarascans hasd a difficult time working under the heat of the Loreto sun so they terminated their work and went back home.
Eventually, the Trojes were reassembled and at present, is renovated to become a quaint, historical bed and breakfast, the Las Trojes Hotel. It is located on the beach of Loreto, a mere 200 yards away from Desert Inn, formerly known as the La Pinta Hotel.
Due to its historical background, the Las Trojes Hotel has been considered more than just a bed and breakfast. While it provides a place to stay in for tourists, it is also a glimpse into the past. Guests are treated to the hospitality and charm that is curiously old-fashioned and endearing at the same time.
The bed and breakfast offers eight rooms, all of which equipped with air conditioning, a full bath, direct TV, and ceiling fans. Room rates begin at 50 USD per night.
The Las Trojes Hotel provides their guests with free use of their bicycles so they can get aound Loreto faster and easier. Free internet use is also available for interested guests.
Adjacent to the hotel is a private beach for guests to hang around in. The white sand beach is gentle enough to swim in and the beach is secluded enough for a more relaxing retreat into the seas.
The Las Trojes Hotel is indeed an interesting architecture in itself. It will capture your interest upon seeing the re-modeled grainaries. It is as if you stepped into time and witnessed what it was like for the Tarascan Indians before. People can talk about their vacation in Loreto all they want, but staying at the Las Trojes Hotel, will make it unique and memorable – a genuine blast from the past.
