Hotel del Norte

There are many hotels in the city/municipality of Mexicali, most of which are built to provide convenient lodgings for weary travelers and visitors who nevertheless find energy in the busy bustling of this colorful multi-cultural Mexican territory. A good number of these accommodations take pride in not only the amenities and services they can offer, but the convenience or novelty of their location as well. A good example is that of the Hotel del Norte.

Located in 205 Madero and Melgar Avenue (sometimes this avenue is simply called Madero) in Mexicali Baja California Mexico, the Hotel del Norte is situated right in the Centro Historico – the historic center - of the city/municipality of Mexicali. While most go for the contemporary and modern aspects of the city – the shopping areas, taking in the hodge-podge spirit of this bilingual (English is spoken practically as often as Spanish in Mexicali) multi-racial metropolis, some visitors to the area have taken to appreciating much of the cultural roots of Mexicali. The Hotel del Norte is situated in such a way that it is practically connected to Lopez Mateos Boulevard, where the bastions of culture such as the city church, the Teatro del Stato (the State Theater), and the Centro Interactivo Sol del Niňo (The Son of the Sun Interactive Center), to name a few places, practically line the streets. Other places of interest in the nearby areas include the library and the museum.

The Hotel del Norte's location in Madero puts it (roughly) a mere seventy yards from the border crossing, where the merging of America and Mexico explains much of the American influences found in Mexicali's core culture. Apart from the above-mentioned sites of cultural Mexicali immersion, the area in which the Hotel del Norte stands also plays host to a shopping mall and a bowling alley. The Hotel del Norte is also within a very comfortable distance of the city's popular bullfighting arena, which is a sight that could set anyone's blood pumping. The area is also quite safe and convenient, as it is just a handful of minutes away from both the police station and the fire station as well as a post office, a rail station, and a hospital.

The Hotel del Norte is a three-star hotel with (at the last count) fifty-six private lodging spaces that offer room service and uncharged twenty-four hour internet connection. Other facilities and services provided by the hotel include buffet breakfasts with courtesy coffee, a modest restaurant-bar for casual hair-down affairs, a beauty salon for guests who want a bit of a change, medical and dental facilities and personnel, money changers, and laundry and dry cleaning for guests who are running out of apparel. The Hotel del Norte also has a proper taxi cab station for the convenience of the guests, and the option for a round-trip bus tour if you happen to be there on a Thursday (the tours are actually pretty good). The hotel also pulls no stops when it come to the security of their clients and the personal belongings of said clients – they have twenty-four hour security in the parking lot, security cameras, and safe boxes.

Rates of rooms in the Hotel del Norte are subject to change; however, if you book through a travel agent and visit as a group your are likely to get a discount as high as thirty percent.
