Apart from being conveniently close to the border, making it accessible to young American students who want to have a great weekend party and be back by Monday for a test, the Hotel Plaza's placement on Madero Avenue connects it to two of the major roads of Mexicali – Calzada Justo Sierra and Lopez Mateos Boulevard. From Calzada Justo Sierra, guests of the Hotel Plaza can make their way to Calzada de las Americas, which is home to bars and the like that are frequented by an American party crowd. From Lopez Mateos Boulevard, those staying in the Hotel Plaza can visit the city church, go bowling, watch something at the Teatro del Stado (State Theater in English) or the Centro Interactivo Sol del Niño (Sol del Niño/Son of the Sun) Interactive Center, and explore Calafia Plaza, where a multitude of shops, restaurants, clubs stand together with Mexicali's famous bullfighting arena.
