Mexicali, Baja California's capital, is one of the most fascinating places in Mexico. Sitting right next to the Mexico-American border (side-by-side with Calexico, America's Mexicali) and practically touching the international border, this city-municipality has managed to become an area that is lively with cultural integration, taking in social influence from both the Eastern and the Western worlds. For example, it is regarded as the Mexican territory that has the most number of English-speaking citizens. Mexicali also has the largest Chinese community in Mexico, called La Chinesca. It is because of this diversity that Mexicali has become a popular modern spot for weekend vacation and business trips. The influx of visitors has prompted the rise of hotels such as the Hotel Plaza.
The Hotel Plaza is located at 366 Madero Avenue Mexicali Baja California Mexico, just a few minutes away from the Mexico-American border. The Hotel Plaza is one of the more simple hotels in Mexicali, but seeing as it is really cheap, it only seems fair. The rooms in the Hotel Plaza are actually very clean and neat, with the standard amenities of bathroom facilities, airconditioning, heating, color televisions and telephones. The space of each unit of accommodation the Hotel Plaza is also very comfortable, neither too big nor too small, with room service that serves alcohol. The personnel hired at the Hotel Plaza are very nice as well; some of them speak English, so there wouldn't be much trouble communicating requirements and requests with them. Other amenities include a taxi service, an in-house restaurant and a beauty salon. Another perk of staying in the Hotel Plaza is the modest parking lot in its property, for the guests who have chosen to drive into Mexicali from America – this is often quite likely. Despite not being glamorous, the Hotel Plaza is cozy and rather well-kept, and it would be the ideal place to go to if one prefers to stay on a budget.
The location of the Hotel Plaza itself isn't bad at all. Apart from being conveniently close to the border, making it accessible to young American students who want to have a great weekend party and be back by Monday for a test, the Hotel Plaza's placement on Madero Avenue connects it to two of the major roads of Mexicali – Calzada Justo Sierra and Lopez Mateos Boulevard. From Calzada Justo Sierra, guests of the Hotel Plaza can make their way to Calzada de las Americas, which is home to bars and the like that are frequented by an American party crowd. From Lopez Mateos Boulevard, those staying in the Hotel Plaza can visit the city church, go bowling, watch something at the Teatro del Stado (State Theater in English) or the Centro Interactivo Sol del Niño (Sol del Niño/Son of the Sun) Interactive Center, and explore Calafia Plaza, where a multitude of shops, restaurants, clubs stand together with Mexicali's famous bullfighting arena.
The Hotel Plaza is ranked two stars and has an unspecified number of rooms for accommodations, and its rates tend to vary depending on the season. Still, the Hotel Plaza is one of the sure bets when it comes to finding a place to rest in the lively city of Mexicali.
