Being on the northern end of the Baja California Peninsula, Mexicali is effectively one of the few Mexican cities that are closest to its geographical neighbor, the United States of America. Sitting right next to the Mexico-American border which is the only thing separating it from Calexico (America's Mexicali), the city-municipality of Mexicali has become known as one of the Mexican cities that are technically bilingual that is, its general population is able to speak Mexican-Spanish and American English. Furthermore, Mexicali's proximity to the international borders also allow influences from other cultures (Chinese, for example) to meld with this integrated social structure. This makes this modern city-municipality a popular spot among weekend tourists and businessmen, and gives rise to Mxicali accommodations such as the Motel Alves.
The Motel Alves is located a kilometer into the west-bound highway that connects Mexicali to its neighbors Tecate and (eventually) Tijuana. The highway on which the Motel Alves stands is virtually a few blocks away from the city-municipality's Bosque y Zoologico (Forest/Park and Zoo in English), running almost-parallel to the border itself on the other side of Mexicali the highway is located at the south, merging with the Calzada Colegio Militar (Military College Street in English; it's where the military district of Mexicali stands) and intersecting the Lazaro Cardenas Boulevard. What makes this highway such a good location for the Motel Alves is the fact that it is a mere handful of moments away from a hospital and a police station, which means there is quicker response to emergencies.
Because the Motel Alves is located at the southern part of Mexicali, most prefer to think of it as a dead location that is, they think that there are no Mexicali areas they can amuse themselves in. Nothing can be further from the truth. As was mentioned before, the Motel Alves is not too far away from the Bosque y Zoologico which, apart from being quite an interesting experience with nature, is educational as well. There are also a few industrial parks and areas in the nearby streets, where guests of the Motel Alves could shop for industrial items in bulk for incredibly low prices. There are also more conventional shopping centers near the area where good quality items could be bought cheaply. The highway to Tijuana where Motel Alves is built also crosses Lazaro Cardinal Boulevard; the intersection is where the monument to Rodolfo Sanchez Taboada stands on a public square.
The Motel Alves is a two-star hotel that has no specified number of rooms available for accommodation. However, each room has been confirmed to have airconditioning, a telephone with long distance service, decent bathroom facilities, and a satellite color television with private channels. One of the rooms in the Motel Alves is also confirmed to have its own private jacuzzi the guests that get this room are pretty lucky. Each room has a designated parking space, for the security purposes.
There is no fixed rate for reservations in the Motel Alves. To clear up the breakdown of costs, it would be best to consult a travel agent or call the hotel via these numbers: 011-52 (686) 553-7550, 011-52 (686) 553-7551 and 011-52 (686) 553-7552.
