Hotel California

If you are familiar with Van Gogh's arresting, vividly-colored paintings especially the one which depicts the artist's bedroom, then you can form in your mind a vague idea of what would meet your eyes when you enter the famous Hotel California in Todos Santos.

If you are thinking why that hotel name sound very familiar, then you might have heard of the famous Eagles song entitled Hotel California. There is even a kind of urban legend in the locality that it was this same hotel which one of the Eagles band member stayed which eventually inspired his writing that world famous tune. However, Eagles member Don Henley denied that there was any connection between their song and the Hotel California in Todos Santos. His confession however did not have any negative effects on the number of visitors and reputation of Hotel California as this family-owned Todos Santos hotel has been in the town for several years now and is reputed to be a wonderful and friendly hotel.

The bright and colorful design of the Hotel California was all thanks to owner and architect John Stewart. It was his love for vibrant hues, colonial Mexican architecture, traditional Spanish and Mexican furnishing, and interesting decorations that gave way to the creation of the unique and beautiful Hotel California. Unfortunately, John passed away in 2006 leaving the sole management to his business partner and dearly beloved wife, Debbie. Before passing away however, John saw to the full renovation of the Hotel California, Todos Santos, transforming it from its washed-out and faded look into the lively and comfortable hotel that it is now.

Delight your sense of sight with splashes of aquamarine, lavender, rose, sunshine yellow, grass green and golden orange as your eyes travel from the handmade floor tiles, the beamed ceilings and the wide open patios of Hotel California. In and around the hotel can be found unique and interesting local artworks and decorations ranging from gleaming wooden sculptures, hand-blown glass vases, antique urns, oil and watercolor paintings, to bone white bull skulls mounted on walls or places atop window sills and tables.

The lush freshness of Baja is also infused within the interiors of the Hotel California Todos Santos through the multitude of potted plants and bunches of flowers placed all over the hotel. The surroundings of the Hotel California especially its gardens and pool area is also home to numerous exotic plants and trees. If you enjoy seeing the gentle swaying of palm leaves and the beautiful hues of bougainvilleas while hearing the relaxing sound of birds, then the Hotel California is the place to be.
